Luc Mallet

Luc Mallet, 46 years old, has trained as a clinician and a researcher. As a psychiatrist, he was the assistant clinical director in psychiatry at Paris 12 (Créteil Henri Mondor-Albert Chenevier, 1996-1999) then at the UPMC (Pitié-Salpêtrière, 1999-2000). In parallel, he aquired training in neuroscience by undertaking a doctoral thesis in functional imaging at the CEA followed by post-doctoral research in experiemental psychology within the CNRS. In 2004, he was recruited as a researcher by the Inserm to study the behavioural aspects of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and to develop novel therapies in psychiatry. Promoted Director of research at the Inserm, he leads the BEBG in the Brain and Spine Institute, wherein the main focus of research is the identification of processes involved in the treatment of information by the basal ganglia and its links to psychopathology as well as the development of innovative treatments for severe neuropsychiatric disorders that are resistant to medical therapy. His particular areas of expertise include psychopathology, clinical and translational research, physiopathology of neuropsychiatric illnesses, and therapeutic innovation. He continues to practice clinically in the Psychiatry and Clinical Research department of the Centre d’Investigation Clinique en Neuroscience du CHU Pitié-Salpêtrière. For 6 years, he was the Editor of the journal “Abstract Psychiatrie” and he has been involved in various institutional activities: Coordinator Steering Committee for Psychiatry, Coordinator – Neurosciences, cognitive sciences, neurology and Psychiatry Multi-Organization Thematique Institute – AVIESAN, French Psychiatry Congress Scientific Council, FondaMental Foundation ( Research Committee, Member du steering comity of Labex Biopsy, Member of the Neuropsychiatric Disorders department of the Faculty of 1000 Medicine, Administrative council of the French Association for Biological Psychiatry Scientific Council, French Abnormal Movements Club Scientific Council, President of the association ‘Clinique Contemporaine et Recherche en Psychiatrie (CCRP)’, Organisational comity of the ‘Journées de Neurologie Comportementale’, ‘Journées CogniPsy de la Pitié-Salpêtrière’, Founder of the ‘Modulation Cérébrale par Matériel d’Implantation (MCMI) de l’AFPB’, Founding member of the DBS and rTMS French Clubs Scientific Council.
